Kindness Leads to Repentance

As I was reading Romans 2, this powerful verse seemed to jump right off the page:

Romans 2:4 (ESV)
Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?

How it relates to you…
I feel like because we know that God is a forgiving God, which He is, we too often take advantage of that. We tend to justify our own evil behavior, because we know God will forgive us. God’s grace is meant to lead you to be more like Him; it’s not an excuse to keep living in error. In what areas of your life are you taking God for granted?

How it relates to others…
Throughout Romans 2, Paul compares man’s imperfect judgment with God’s righteous judgment. We are quick to judge people for the very things that we do ourselves. When other people make mistakes, Jesus shows us how to be patient and kind with them, because kindness leads to repentance. Who can you extend more grace to?

“I choose kindness… I will be kind to the poor, for they are alone. Kind to the rich, for they are afraid. And kind to the unkind, for such is how God has treated me.” – Max Lucado
