10 Ways to Get Rid of Stress

There’s no need to carry stress around. In Matthew 11:28-30, Jesus is calling the weary and burdened to come to Him, offering rest. Here are 10 ways to get rid of unwanted stress:

1) Give it up to God. Oftentimes, we “give it up” to God, only to take it right back as soon as things don’t go our way. Trust God enough to let Him be in total control of your life.

2) Smile. Did you know it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile? Frowning tenses up your muscles, leaving you feeling tired and sore. Take time to smile, laugh, and enjoy life!

3) Stop doing so much. Don’t let your body go into overload. If there’s anything you don’t need to be doing, then don’t do it. Be aware of your time management.

4) Do not fear. Fear can cripple your mind, causing you to make stupid choices. God will always be with you, so don’t worry so much. “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5b).

5) God is enough. The darker it gets, the brighter He is. Even if your worst fear does come true, God is enough. He is everything you and I will ever need.

6) Sleep. It’s important to get at least 8 hours of sleep every night, because surviving purely on coffee and adrenaline will leave you feeling more exhausted than energized.

7) Stay healthy! Avoid eating too much sugar. It may give you a temporary rush of energy, but afterwards, it can wear you out. Eat healthy foods and exercise more. Getting oxygen to your brain helps you to stay positive and think clearly.

8) It’s all in your attitude.
Pain is inevitable, but your attitude is a choice. You can view the situation as being negative, or as a positive struggle that will bring you closer to God. It’s up to you.

9) Relax! Take time to re-energize. Read God’s Word and pray continually. Lay your concerns at the feet of Jesus.

10) Surround yourself with the Body of Christ. Be real with people. Sometimes a long heart-to-heart can take a lot of stress off that you didn’t even know was there.
